Get monthly visitors from Alexa

Alexa is well known for internet traffic/information about a site and now days they are on top as their data is more accurate. Today, I was researching on some web sites so I needed alexa’s help of course. Alexa used to show the visitors/page view at the Y-axis in thousands previously. But today, I was a little bit confused when I was looking for monthly visitors. Well month view was there but it was just showing something in percentage. Well fine, percentage on what number? I didn’t see any information there and then went through their FAQ and found that it was based on “Total Global Internet users”, ahh interesting! I don’t know what was their problem to show the actual number !
Anyways, for today I found total global internet users were 1,463,632,361
So for, percentage that I had from my query (e.g. 0.02) had to calculate from the total number.
An example of Alexa Chart
Example:
Monthly visitors = 1,463,632,361 * 0.02 / 100;
Approximately : 2, 92,726 users per month
Well, im still thinking why they didn’t give the actual number? Business purpose? Hmm….
ঝড়ের মাঝে একদিন…

আমার গ্রামের বাড়ী সুনামগঞ্জ। অনেকে হয়ত সুনামগঞ্জ এলাকাকে “হাসন রাজার” এলাকা হিসাবে চিনেন, কিন্তু সুনামগঞ্জ জেলার আর একটা পরিচিতি আছে আর সেটা হল “হাওর এলাকা”। বন্যা হলে আর কথাই নেই, এর আধিকাংশ এলাকা পানিতে ডুবে যায়। হাসন রাজার ওই কাহিনি নিশ্চই শুনেছেন, দল বল নিয়ে নদীর ঘাঠে বসে থাকত, কেন? ওই নদীটা ছিল সব যোগাযোগ মাধ্যম সব ধরনের যাতায়াতের জন্য। ওই এলাকার কেউ বিয়ে করলে নদীটা ছিল একমাএ মাধ্যম আর হাসন রাজার কাজ ছিল নৌকা থামিয়ে নতুন বধুর মুখ দেখা!এই কাহিনি শুনেছিলাম দাদী্র কাছ থেকে, মুখ দেখে ভাল লাগলে হাসন সাহেব কি করতেন, না হয় নাই বললাম…তো যাইহোক, সুনামগঞ্জ নিয়ে কোন কাহিনি শুনলে নদী হাওর আসবেই…
ঢাকায় ২ দিন থেকে অনেক বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে, ঘর থেকে বের হতে পারছিনা, একটা নশটালজিয়া পেয়ে বসল। তখন আমি ৩য় ক্লাস এ পড়ি। বাবা আমাকে সিলেট নিয়ে আসবেন, একটা নৌকা ভাড়া করা হল, ২ জন মাঝি আসলেন, বলা প্রয়োজন, ২ জন মাঝি কিন্তু প্রফেশনাল মাঝি ছিলনা। আমরা যাত্রা শুরু করলাম, আর শুরু হল ঝড়-তুফান!!! সেকি ঝড়! আমি এখন পর্যন্ত এমন ঝড় আর দেখিনি, রাস্তার ঠিক মাঝামাঝি ঝড় শুরু হল, এমন যায়গায় যেখান থেকে কিনারা দেখা যায়না…ঠিক একটু পরেই শুরু হল ঢেউ!!!
আমি “কালিমা” থেকে শুরু করে যত সুরা মুখস্ত করেছিলাম,সব পড়তে লাগলাম।ধরে নিয়েছিলাম আর বাচবনা। আমার বাবার কিছু টেম্পার প্রব্লেম ছিল, ২ মাঝি বাবার বকুনি খেয়ে দিশেহারা হয়ে গেল। আসলে এইরখম সিটুএশন এ কার মাথা ঠিক থাকার কথা না, এক মাঝি দিশেহারা হয়ে যে দিকে ধার টানতেছিল, তার ঠিক উল্টু দিকে টানা শুরু করল, এখন নৌকা আর যাবে কোথায়? নৌকা একযায়গায় দাঁড়িয়ে রইল! বাবা যত জুরে বকুনি দেয় ওরা তত জুরে টানে! এই দৃশ্য দেখে আমি আর হাসি আটকাতে পারলামনা, দিলাম জুরে একটা হাসি, কিন্তু একটু পরেই আমার ২ গালে যে ২ টা শব্দ হইছিল, সেটা ঝড়ের শব্দের চেয়ে ও বড় ছিল! যাইহোক, আল্লার কি রহম হল, একটু পরে বৃষ্টি থেমে গেল! সবাই বিজে একাকার, তারপর কি আর করা, আমরা বাড়ীর দিকে রওয়ানা দিলাম। ওইদিন আর যাওয়া হইনি সিলেটে।

আমাদের Trippert এ একটা নিয়ম আছে, কেউ যদি কারো নাম ভুল করে উচ্চারন করে তাইলে লাঞ্চ অথবা ডিনার করাতে হবে! নিয়মটা কে শুরু করছিল, আমি না হয় নাই বললাম…তবে, এই নিয়ম (ফাউল নিয়ম) এর প্রথম শিকার ছিলাম আমি!!!! শাহিদ ভাইকে “শহিদ ভাই” ডেকে প্রথম বাম্বু টা আমিই খেয়েছিলাম। কি আর করা সবাইকে লাঞ্চ করাতে হইছিল। কিন্তু আমার নামটা সবাই ভুল উচ্চারন করে, আমি কিছু বলতে পারিনা 😦 কারন এর জন্য দায়ী আমি নিজেই!! আমার নাম ইংরেজিতে “Junal” বাংলায় উচ্চারন করলে “জুনাল” ই হবে তাইনা, তাই কিছু বলতে পারিনা, কিন্তু আমার নামটা ইংরেজিতে হওয়া উচিত ছিল “Junel”, যেহেতু এই স্পেলিং(junel) টা সব যায়গায় use করিনি তাই আর চেঞ্জ করা হয়নাই।
একটা request থাকবে সবার কাছে, আমাকে “জুনেল” বলে ডাকবেন, পিলিজ 🙂
প্রথম আলোয় প্রথম ব্লগ

খুব ভাল দিনে প্রথম আলো ব্লগের ইনভাইটেশন কোড পেলাম হাসিন ভাইয়ের থেকে, আজকে আমার কোন প্লেন ছিলনা কি করব সারাদিন, তাই প্রথম আলোর ইনভাইটেশন কোড পেয়ে মনে হল একটা দুইটা বাংলা ব্লগ লিখে নিতে পারলে খারাপ হয়না। এতে আমার খুব লাভ হবে, কারন বাংলা মিডিয়াম এর ছাএ হয়ে আমি বাংলাতে খুব একটা ভাল না। প্রায় বানান ভুল করি, আর এখন তো বাংলা একেবারেই প্রেকটিস হয়না, এমনকি পএিকা পড়া হয়না প্রতিদিন, সময় পেলে ফিড নিউজ পড়ে দিন চলে যায়। তো যাইহোক, প্রথম আলো ব্লগের কথা আমি অনেক আগে থেকেই জানতান হাসিন ভাইয়ের জন্য। ইমরান আর হাসিন ভাই যে কিছু ভাল কাজ করবে সেটা নিয়ে কোন সন্দেহ ছিলনা, আমার কিছু expectation ছিল এই ব্লগ নিয়ে, যেহেতো উনারা আগে এই ধরনের কাজ করে এসেছেন somewherein ব্লগ এ! তো যাইহোক, আমি এই দুইটা ব্লগ এর মাঝে তুলনা করতে যাবনা এখন, হয়ত এখন সেই সময় আসেনি তুলনা করার, কিন্ত এতটুকু বলব যে প্রথম আলো ব্লগের ইউজার ইন্টারফেস টা আমার কাছে খুব ভাল লেগেছে, অনেক নিট মনে হয়েছে, যটা নাকি ব্লগ এর জন্য চমতকার! যখন প্রফাইল সেট করতে গেলাম, দেখলাম যে সবকিছুই খুব ফ্রেন্ডলি এবং ইজি, একজন ডেভেলপার হিসাবে না, আমার মনে হয় সাধারন ইউজাররা এইটা খুব পছন্দ করবে। কিছু ফিচার উল্লেখ না করলেই নয়…
এইখানে আপনার ব্লগ এর ব্যানার আপলোড করতে পারবেন, যত খুশি লিঙ্ক এড করে নিতে পারবেন, আর এস এস ফিড এবং আপনার ফ্লিকার এড করে নিতে পারবেন। look & feel একটা বড় জিনিস, যেখানে প্রথম আলো ব্লগ একশ তে একশ পাবে, আরেকটা বড় জিনিস হচ্ছে রিডেবিলিটি, আমার মনে হয় প্রথম আলো ব্লগ এইখানে ও একশতে একশ পাবে। ওভারল খুব জটিল কাজ হইছে…আভিনন্দন রইল হাসিন ভাই এবং ইমরান এর প্রতি, ধন্যবাদ বাংলা কমিউনিটিকে আর একটা ভাল কাজ উপহার দেয়ার জন্য। ধন্যবাদ প্রথম আলো কে এইরখম একটা উদযোগ নেয়ার জন্য।

Day before yesterday night I was watching this movie called “My Fair Lady“, I got to say movie was quite interesting. It had enough fun to hold me but something was distracting me badly, there was live twittering going on, there was live friendfeed going on in real time! Specially, enjoyed the fun comments on American Election 2008. As I was watching the movie on my laptop, I kept the movie player at the right side and the web browser on other side. Time to time I was getting confused which one to watch. “Live web” was that kind of fun so I gave up watching the movie, unfortunately!
We know Facebook “live feed”[please check it out from your FB home page] was launched few days ago, so now we can see the activities of our friends in real time. This is something really interesting, even my friend is not online, I can see what he/she is doing with their profile 😉
Similar thing has brought by Friendfeed and Twitter! Unlike Twitter’s page, which only shows Tweets, FriendFeed’s “real time web” shows you everything that people are doing on the Web. Seems like chat room eh? But hey! You can also comment on these live tweets and friendfeed comment and note that you cannot comment on facebook live feed!
So, where this web is going really? Now, I have something more to keep me in front of my laptop, when im not working and bored I have got something to watch in the web! Isn’t it amazing?? This is not something that is stored somewhere and web page is playing it for me. This is something that is going on in REAL TIME. No doubt, this web world is becoming more AJAX place. It’s becoming interesting day by day…and I just can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in next couple of years…
